The Near-Fatal Accident
In August 1996, at age 22, Julia suffered a near-fatal car crash. She was acting as a designated driver for a friend who had been drinking. The car was hit from behind by a drunk driver. The steering wheel punctured Julia's skull. It took over a year of thorough therapy before she could speak or walk properly.

While she was recovering, she realized that her life never had any balance...she worked nonstop after she graduated at 16, first as a waitress and then a restaurant manager. Her life had been all work, success and material things, she said that the crash woke her up to realize the importance of doing whatever she could do to leave a positive impact on the future. The steering wheel in her head steered her in a new direction, both figuratively and literally.
