Tree Sit
After the accident, on December 10, 1997 Julia Hill climbed 180ft into a 1500 year old Redwood tree to protest against logging. She lived on two six by eight platforms for 738 days. She used the trunk of the tree as her sidewalk and exercise treadmill. Julia hosted TV shows, was an in-tree correspondent for a local cable television show, she used sell-powered phones for radio interviews.
Finally in 1999, two years after, the Pacific Lumber Company agreed to preserve Luna and all trees in a 200ft boundary. In exchange Julia came out of the tree. When she finally put her feet on solid ground, she said that she was leaving the best teacher and friend she ever had. She felt sad to leave because she had become so much of a part of tree and it had become a big part of her as well and she wasn't sure if she was ever going to fit in with other people again. Julia "Butterfly" Hill did the impossible, she protected a tree and the grove around it.
